Landscapes, grown in water

Still Water Aquascapes is a nature-aquarium studio in Kampong Glam, Singapore, designing, supplying and planting aquascapes for homes and offices across the island and shipping hardware worldwide.

Founder Tan Wei Ling placing seiryu stone in a rimless tank

Tan Wei Ling trained as a landscape architect and started scaping on a single 45P tank in her shophouse flat in 2014. By 2016 she and her partner Daniel Ong, a marine engineer, were planting tanks for friends at weekends, and they opened a small studio on Jalan Pinang to keep up with the waiting list.

We follow the nature-aquarium tradition: a tank should read as a landscape, built from a few natural materials, with plants and animals chosen because they will thrive together. That means fewer, better products, specified properly - every light we sell has been measured for PAR at the substrate, and every filter is rated by real flow with media, not the number on the box.

Our livestock is bred in the studio or bought from two farms in Johor and Perak that we visit twice a year, and quarantined for at least 14 days before sale. Our hardscape is picked by hand from a yard in Tuas, and we will happily photograph individual stones so you can choose your main stone from home.

A short history

  1. 2014

    One tank on a windowsill

Wei Ling plants a 45P iwagumi in her Kampong Glam flat. Friends start asking for one of their own.

  2. 2016

    The Jalan Pinang studio

Still Water opens in a shophouse with four display tanks, a quarantine rack and a lot of seiryu stone.

  3. 2021

    Scape kits, shipped worldwide

The first complete kits ship overseas with a numbered hardscape set and a planting call with a scaper.

  4. 2026

    Eleven tanks, 1,400 homes

The studio passes 1,400 scapes planted in Singapore homes and opens monthly beginner workshops.

What we hold to

  • Matched, not just sold

Light, filter, CO2 and soil are specified for your tank volume, so you are not guessing at PAR or turnover on day one.

  • Set up in your home

In Singapore our team carries the tank in, levels it, leak-tests it and plants the kit. Overseas, a scaper is on video call while you plant.

  • Live arrival, guaranteed

Shrimp and fish are quarantined for 14 days and ship same-day in oxygen bags. Any loss on arrival is replaced or refunded.

What customers say

“I gave them my shelf measurements and a photo of the room. Two weeks later Wei Ling planted a 60P in my flat in Tiong Bahru and it has not had a single algae bloom.”
Marcus Lim - Iwagumi kit · 60P
“The spec sheet told me exactly what PAR I would get at the substrate. My carpet pearled on day nine.”
Aiko Watanabe - Lumen Arc LED · Nature spectrum
“Twenty Bloody Marys arrived in Woodlands at 11am, all of them alive and colouring up within a week. Berried females by the end of the month.”
Farhan Ismail - Livestock · Bloody Mary shrimp

A scape, a technique and what is in quarantine, monthly

One letter a month from the studio: the scape of the month and how it was built, one technique worth stealing, new hardscape in the yard and first pick of livestock as it clears quarantine. No spam, ever.
