Took the trial expecting to return them
My flat is concrete, glass and not much else. The Monitor 5s were warm without getting boomy even fifteen centimetres from the wall. I never called the courier - I bought the stands instead.

Two-way passive pair, oiled solid wood
The speaker we started with, and still the one we recommend most. A 130 mm paper-cone mid-woofer and a 25 mm silk dome tweeter in a solid-wood cabinet, rear-ported and voiced in a living room rather than a lab, so they sound right at sensible volumes and close to a wall.
Each pair is matched to ±0.5 dB, and the magnetic grilles come in charcoal wool or natural linen. The binding posts take bare wire, bananas or spades. Add a valve amplifier and the Monitor 5 will fill a room much larger than its size suggests.
