A firm, round bolster that holds a supported backbend or a reclined bound angle for ten minutes without sagging. Kapok fill - the silky fibre from the seed pods of the kapok tree - is light and springy; buckwheat hull is heavier and moulds to the spine.
The inner case has a zip so the fill can be topped up or loosened; the outer cover is heavy organic cotton canvas with a carry handle at one end, and comes off for washing.

I teach four vinyasa classes a week and have worn through cheaper mats in months. The 6 mm Ganga mat has had a year of heated classes and my hands have not slipped once. The rubber smell was gone in a week of leaving it unrolled.
I wrote in asking for the thickest mat because of my knees. The studio replied the same afternoon and suggested the 6 mm plus a folded blanket for kneeling, so I would not wobble in balances. Exactly right. Paid on delivery, arrived in four days.
The starter kit arrived in a kraft tube and a jute bag - not a scrap of plastic. The card with the beginner poses is lovely and my mother follows it every morning with the strap and blocks.
The buckwheat zafu felt hard at first; after a week of sitting it shaped itself and now my back stays straight for twenty minutes. Four stars only because I would like a darker colour option.
