The eight-part hingvashtak of the Bhaishajya Ratnavali: sunthi, pippali, maricha, ajwain, saindhava lavana, jeera, krishna jeera and hing, each roasted separately to the point its aroma lifts, then ground and combined. The asafoetida is the compounded Hing from Hadoti, bloomed in a little ghee before milling.
Hingvashtak churna is the household digestive of classical Ayurveda, traditionally taken with the first morsel of a meal to support agni - digestive fire - and ease the heaviness that follows a late or rich dinner. Take a small pinch with ghee and rice. Those with acidity or ulcers should consult a physician first.
