Prepared to the Chyawanprash Avaleha formula of the Charaka Samhita, Chikitsa Sthana 1. The base is hand-deseeded amla (Emblica officinalis) from Junagadh, steamed whole and pressed in small lots, then cooked with fifty-two supporting herbs including pippali, bala, guduchi and the dashamula group, finished with cow’s ghee and unheated honey stirred in only after the vessel has cooled.
In Ayurveda, chyawanprash is the archetypal rasayana, traditionally taken through the cold months to support strength, appetite and the body’s resistance to seasonal change. Take it on an empty stomach with warm milk or water. Diabetics and those on prescribed medication should consult a physician before beginning a course.
