The Movement

Turn it over

Every Valmont is cased with a sapphire back, because the calibre is half the watch. Bridges are bevelled and polished by hand, plates carry perlage, screws are blued over a flame, and the balance is regulated in five positions before it leaves the bench. Nothing is decorated where you cannot see it - and nothing you can see is left undecorated.

Geneva · Since 1968

A small maison that makes its own movements

Valmont was founded in 1968 by the watchmaker Émile Valmont in two rooms above a tobacconist on the Rue de la Corraterie. His first calibre, the hand-wound VH-01, was drawn, cut and finished on the same bench - and the bench is still in use.

Today thirty-four watchmakers, engravers and finishers work in our atelier in Plan-les-Ouates. We make fewer than 2,400 watches a year, every one with an in-house calibre, and we still sign each certificate by hand.

I
“I timed my Lac 38 against an atomic clock for a month. It gained eleven seconds in thirty days. The caseback is the first thing I show anyone who asks about it.”
Henrik AaltoArchitect, Helsinki - owner since 2022
II
“My father’s 1974 Valmont went back to Geneva after decades in a drawer. It came home with a new mainspring, its original dial untouched, and a handwritten note from the watchmaker.”
Clara WeissmüllerSecond-generation owner, Munich
III
“The Abysse has been to 40 metres off Komodo more times than I can count. The bezel action still clicks like the day it arrived.”

Letters from the bench

Four letters a year: new calibres before they are announced, limited editions before they are listed, and the occasional note on how a hairspring is made. Nothing else.
