Vulcanised Rubber Strap

For the Abysse, 20 mm

Sale price CHF 260Regular price CHF 290−10%Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 88 reviews

Vulcanised natural rubber with a fine horizontal tread on the outside and channels on the underside that let water and air escape, so the strap does not stick to the wrist after a dive. It is vanilla-scented - an old diver’s trick that keeps it from smelling of rubber.

Cut to fit the Abysse case flush, with no gap between strap and lugs, and finished with a steel or titanium pin buckle. Quick-release bars mean it swaps for the bracelet in under a minute.

    Eleven seconds in a month

I logged the Lac 38 against an atomic reference for thirty days: plus eleven seconds in total, well inside the published −2/+4. Winding it each morning has become a ritual, and the 70 hours means a weekend off the wrist is no problem.

They serviced my father’s 1974 piece

A VH-01 that had not run in twenty years. The atelier replaced the mainspring and two jewels, left the patinated dial exactly as it was, and sent photos of the movement before and after. Not cheap, but I would not trust it to anyone else.

    An honest tool watch

Over a hundred dives on the Abysse 300 and the bezel still clicks cleanly through all 120 positions. The rubber strap channels really do stop it sticking. Lume fades faster than I would like after an hour in the dark, hence the only nitpick.

    GMT done properly

Jumping the local hour on landing without stopping the watch is exactly what I wanted. The bracelet micro-adjust is brilliant on long-haul flights. I would have liked a slightly thinner case, but it sits well under a cuff.
