Abysse 300

Automatic diver, ceramic bezel

The diver we first made for the Geneva diving club in 1979, rebuilt around a 41 mm steel case with a screw-down crown flanked by guards and a unidirectional 120-click bezel with a ceramic insert. The dial is matte with thick applied indices filled with Super-LumiNova, legible at depth and in the dark.

The automatic calibre VH-20 runs at 28,800 vph with 60 hours of reserve and a date at six. Every case is pressure-tested to 375 m - 125 percent of its rating - and certified to ISO 6425 before it leaves the atelier.

    Eleven seconds in a month

I logged the Lac 38 against an atomic reference for thirty days: plus eleven seconds in total, well inside the published −2/+4. Winding it each morning has become a ritual, and the 70 hours means a weekend off the wrist is no problem.

They serviced my father’s 1974 piece

A VH-01 that had not run in twenty years. The atelier replaced the mainspring and two jewels, left the patinated dial exactly as it was, and sent photos of the movement before and after. Not cheap, but I would not trust it to anyone else.

    An honest tool watch

Over a hundred dives on the Abysse 300 and the bezel still clicks cleanly through all 120 positions. The rubber strap channels really do stop it sticking. Lume fades faster than I would like after an hour in the dark, hence the only nitpick.

    GMT done properly

Jumping the local hour on landing without stopping the watch is exactly what I wanted. The bracelet micro-adjust is brilliant on long-haul flights. I would have liked a slightly thinner case, but it sits well under a cuff.
