Brass will darken. That is the deal.

We are honest about the material. Brass tarnishes - that is what brass does - and anything that touches food or water carries a food-safe lacquer that we tell you how to look after. Our care card explains what to polish, what to leave alone, and what will look better in five years than it does today.

Every order ships with a jar of our lemon-and-chalk polish and a printed care card, so nothing about the upkeep is a surprise.

    Wipe after use. Brass will darken - polish every 6-8 weeks with the jar included

A diya that is only lit twice a year is an ornament. We draw ours with a wide oil well, a stable base and a rim you can wipe clean in one pass, so lighting one before work is a thirty-second habit rather than a production.

    Lovely urli, just know that brass is brass

    The urli is beautiful and the weight is reassuring. It did darken within about two months in Mumbai humidity - the polish they send works well, but you should expect to do it. Docking one star only because I wish the care card said so more loudly on the product page.
