Twelve days from the dahlias
I followed the care card to the letter - re-cut every two days, fresh water - and the Café au Lait dahlias lasted twelve days. The box is entirely paper and cardboard, which matters to me.
October in one bouquet. Poppy-red cactus dahlias and spiky Firepot chrysanthemums with branches of rosehip, crab apple and copper beech, finished with bronze grasses that catch the low autumn light. It is loud, warm and a little wild - exactly how the hedgerows look this month.
The Ember is only in the shop while the dahlias last, which in a mild year can be the first week of November. When the frost comes, it goes.

Sent a Classic Hackney to my mum on her birthday at short notice. The rider texted a photo on delivery and the handwritten card was lovely. It looked like an armful from a garden, not a supermarket.
Outside London so it came next day by courier - still perfectly fresh in its water pouch. One star off only because the Deluxe was a little smaller than I imagined; the stem counts on the size guide are accurate though.
Hattie walked us round the dahlia field in August and built everything from what was in flower that week. No foam, nothing flown in, and they pressed our leftover stems into a frame for us.
