Bhringraj Taila

Sesame base, cooked over three days

Sale price ₹395Regular price ₹460−14%Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 1534 reviews

Bhringraj (Eclipta alba) cut fresh at flowering from our own plots outside Kalol, juiced the same morning and cooked into cold-pressed sesame oil with amla, neem and methi over three days, until the herb paste turns crisp between the fingers - the classical test for a finished taila.

Called kesharaja, the king of hair, in the classical texts, bhringraj is traditionally massaged into the scalp to support the roots and to draw heat out of the head before sleep. Heavier and warmer than the brahmi taila, so better suited to vata constitutions and to dry winter weeks.

    The label tells you everything

I have bought triphala from a dozen places over the years. This is the first jar that told me which three fruits, in what ratio, which harvest and which laboratory tested the lot. The churna itself is finer and smells fresher than anything from the big brands.

The vaidya told me to buy less

I ordered four things and the consultation call went twenty-five minutes. The vaidya asked about my routine, my sleep and my prakriti, then said two of the four were unnecessary for me and offered to refund them. I have ordered from nobody else since.

    Kumkumadi is the real thing

Genuinely saffron-heavy, and the colour on the pillowcase proves it. Expensive, but a 30 ml bottle has lasted me five months at three drops a night. Four stars only because the dropper leaked slightly in transit - they replaced the cap without argument.

    COD, delivered in three days

Ordered the chyawanprash on Cash on Delivery on a Monday and it reached Surat on Thursday, packed properly in a glass jar with no leakage. Tastes like the one my grandmother used to make rather than the sweet paste sold in shops.
