Smart homes should feel like homes
Hearth Labs designs calm, private, easy connected-home devices in San Francisco.
We began in 2017 at a kitchen table in the Mission District. A weekend spent helping a parent untangle six apps, four hubs and a doorbell that needed a data centre to ring convinced us that the smart home had become something people managed rather than enjoyed. Our first product was a single dimmer switch that worked perfectly well as a switch, and only then as anything more.
Our privacy promise is an engineering decision, not a policy page. Every Hearth device pairs to a hub that lives in your home, and that hub runs your routines, your motion zones and your camera analysis on its own processor. Video is encrypted on the hub with keys only you hold. Cloud backup and remote viewing are there if you want them, and switched off until you do.
We build on open standards so you are never locked in. Every device is Matter-certified and works with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home, and every one is tested in forty-two volunteer homes before it ships. We publish our firmware support dates on the box - eight years minimum - and we back the hardware with a five-year warranty and a team of real people in Oakland who answer the phone.

What we hold to
Local by default
Automations and video analysis run on the hub. Nothing leaves the house unless you ask it to.
Works with what you have
Matter-certified, with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home support out of the box.
Set up in minutes
Plug in, scan one code, name the room. Most homes are running in under ten minutes.
What customers say
“Our internet went out for two days in the January storm. The porch light, the thermostat schedule and the door lock just kept working.”
“My dad is 81 and he never once noticed the switches were smart. He just noticed the hallway light comes on when he gets up at night.”
“I set up the hub, a lock and four bulbs before my coffee went cold. Apple Home picked everything up on the first scan.”
