Basta & Co., Surat
A family stationer that has packed school bags for Surat’s children since 1987, and now packs them for the rest of India.
Basta is the word most of Gujarat uses for a school bag, and the bag is where we started: Jayantilal Bhatt’s counter on Ghod Dod Road sold canvas bags, notebooks and slates to the families of three neighbouring schools. He knew every school’s list by heart, and he covered every notebook in brown paper at no charge.
Today we keep more than 140 school lists on file, from playschools to CBSE, ICSE and state-board secondary schools. Choose the class and the school, and we pack exactly what the list asks for - the right ruling of notebook, the right pencils, the geometry box with the right instruments - into one box, with name labels if you want them.
Everything we sell is chosen for children: bags weighed and fitted with padded straps, food-grade steel tiffins, BPA-free bottles and non-toxic crayons, all checked against our own safety standard. Schools order in bulk on WhatsApp with one GST invoice; parents pay Cash on Delivery if they prefer.

What customers say
“I sent a photo of the school list on WhatsApp at ten at night. The kit came two days later with every notebook covered and labelled, and my daughter’s name spelt right on all forty labels.”
“We order kits for 180 children in our primary section every year. One quote, one GST invoice, and the boxes arrive packed class by class so the teachers can hand them out on day one.”
“The steel tiffin and sipper have survived a full year of school-bus rides. Not one leak, and the name labels are still on.”
