Lippan kaam is the relief work that covers the inner walls of a bhunga, the round mud house of the Banni grasslands. Clay and donkey dung are kneaded into a plastic paste, rolled into fine ropes and laid onto the surface by hand, and mirrors are pressed in while it is still soft so the lamplight scatters across the room at night.
Raised by Jamnaben Ahir in Ludiya on a seasoned MDF board so it can be hung in a flat, and sealed against humidity for city homes. The relief is drawn freehand - no stencil - so the two halves of a symmetrical motif will differ slightly. Hairline settling cracks in the clay are normal and stable.
