Mirror work is stitched onto a cotton backing so it never touches skin, chaniya flares are cut light enough to twirl in for hours, and every choli closes with a flat fabric tie instead of hooks. Shop by age, check by height

Children grow unevenly, so we cut every size to a height range. If your child is tall for their age, or between two bands, choose by height and size up.

  1. Height: stand them against a wall, no shoes, and mark the top of the head.
  2. Chest: around the fullest part, under the arms, tape kept loose.
  3. Waist: around the tummy at the belly button - our waists are elastic, so round up.

Since 2014

Started at a pol-house sewing machine

Chhotu & Co. began when Mitali Desai could not find a cotton chaniya choli soft enough for her son’s first Navratri - he was eleven months old and screamed at every sequinned thing in the shops. She stitched one herself on her mother’s machine in a pol house in Khadia, and the neighbours asked for six more.

Today a team of twenty-two tailors cuts and stitches every piece in our Ambawadi studio, still from organic cotton, still checked by hand for loose threads and rough edges before anything is folded. “Chhotu” is what every Gujarati family calls its smallest member. That is who we make for.
