True Patan Patola, where warp and weft are both tie-dyed to the design before weaving begins and then aligned thread by thread on a slanted loom. Two weavers work together for roughly six months on one saree, which is why there is no such thing as a cheap one and why the pattern reads identically on both faces.
Ours comes from a household in Patan we have bought from since 1998, in the classic navratna and popat-kunjar motifs. It is a saree families hand down - wear it for the wedding, then keep it for the next one.
